CTS FUNDING AND WORLDSKILLS EQUIPMENT LEGACY
EQUIPMENT LEGACY
As a legacy from WorldSkills Calgary 2009, the Government of Alberta distributed
the equipment to schools and post-secondary training providers across the
province. Computers, water saws, cooking equipment and moulding machines are
among the many items used during the four-day Worldskills competition held in
September of 2009.
“The distribution of the equipment builds on the tremendous momentum created
by Worldskills Calgary 2009,” said Minister of Employment and Immigration
Hector Goudreau. “The renewed interest in skilled trades and technology
sectors will help Alberta build and educate the skilled and dynamic workforce we
will need in the future.”
All high schools offering career and technology studies courses and all
post-secondary training providers offering apprenticeship technical training
that submitted proposals are receiving equipment or tools. When awarding the
equipment, the government considered the need to replace old equipment and the
value added to the overall community.

CTS FUNDING
Skills Canada Alberta, is proud to be a part of the Government of Alberta's announcment
of $14 million to school jurisdictions for equipment upgrades to more than 100 CTS
labs throughout the province. Out of the province’s 62 school boards and authorities,
a total of 53 proposals (some containing multiple lab project upgrades) were submitted
and approved for funding.
“Enhancing CTS options for our students opens a wide variety of opportunities
to become part of Alberta’s skilled and knowledgeable workforce,” said Education
Minister Dave Hancock. “Such training is essential to support the province’s industries
and improve the long-run sustainability of our economy.”
"This partnership between Skills Canada Alberta
and the government complements innovative strategies such as regional skills
centres and mobile CTS labs,” said Hancock. “Education will also be working with the
ministries of Advanced Education and Technology and Employment and Immigration
to further enhance CTS delivery, accessibility and students’ transitions into
their chosen careers.”
