Canadian Skills Competition
15th Canadian Skills Competition!
May 20 - 23, 2010
Waterloo, Ont
Team Alberta's
Schedule
at the Canadian Skills Competition.
Canadian Skills Competition remains the only event of its kind in Canada. It is the only national, Olympic-style, multi-trade and technology competition for young students and apprentices in the country. Alberta is proud to have hosted the 2008 Canadian Skills Competition at Calgary’s Stampede Park. This is the fourth time Skills Canada Alberta has hosted this prestigious event, which is more than any other
province.
The CSC is the main step in selecting the members of Team Canada for the WorldSkills Competition that is held every two years. The 2010 Canadian Skills Competition will be the qualifying year for WorldSkills London 2011. On May
20-23,2010 Waterloo, Ont will host the Canadian Skills Competition!
Every year, the event brings together over 500 young people from all regions of Canada, along with their parents and advisors, to compete in over 40 trade and technology areas. The competition provides an opportunity for young Canadians studying a skilled trade or technology to be tested against exacting standards and against their peers from across the nation. Students vie to win the honour of being crowned the best in their chosen discipline.
The journey to the CSC is a long one for many students as they must compete at local, regional and provincial/territorial events to gain their place to represent their province/territory at the CSC.
Plan for a Spot on Team Alberta at the Canadian Skills Competition
Team Alberta will be selected at the Provincial Skills Canada Competition (PSCC)
on May 12-13, 2010. Six days later students, teachers and SCA staff will travel
via Westjet to Kitchener, Ontario for the Canadian Skills Competition (CSC).
During the PSCC Awards Ceremony on May 13 all students who earn a medal will be
escorted backstage after we photograph their onstage moments of success. Gold
medalists will be given their Team Alberta information package and will confirm
their participation in the CSC.
Students must be present at the Awards Ceremony to claim their position on Team
Alberta. If the Gold medalist is not able to attend CSC, the next top ranking
individuals will be asked to participate.
The cost for a high school or post-secondary student to attend the CSC is
approximately $800 and for a teacher/chaperone it is $1,250. This cost includes
flights, ground transportation, hotels, accreditation fees, two Team Alberta
shirts and some meals.
Although SCA has heavily subsidized the cost to participate, we recognize the
cost is significant and hope that by providing this advanced notice all eligible
students will not miss an opportunity to be involved in this important event.
