Volunteers
Share your enthusiasm with Alberta's Youth!
Skills Canada Alberta prides itself on the fact that volunteers are the core of our organization. Each year Skills Canada Alberta hosts the Provincial Skills
Canada Competition thanks to the support of over 350 volunteers. The event is made possible, in large part, because of the commitment and generosity of people like you who volunteer their time. Skills Canada Alberta appreciates our volunteers and wants to make your volunteer experience unforgettable. We invite you to be a part of our team!
In 2010, we will host the Provincial Skills Competition and Canadian Skills Competition at the Edmonton Expo Centre (Agricom, Northlands Park) Edmonton. The Olympic-style competition will welcome
5,000 high school students, apprentices, teachers, post secondary candidates and the general public.
A key feature of the Provincial Skills Canada Competition is Skill City featuring
our interactive Try-A-Trades®. We are encouraging employers, associations,
labour groups and training providers to shine the spotlight on their trade and
connect with thousands of students exploring their career options.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
- General Set up and Tear down
- Registration, Show Office and Info Booth Support
- Mentors for the Girls Exploring Trades and Technologies Conference
- Join a Provincial Technical Committee
- Try-A-Trade® Volunteer

PROVINCIAL TECHNICAL COMMITTEES
Each of the Provincial Skills Canada Competition events are overseen by volunteers from the private, government and educational sectors that have a specific expertise in their particular fields. In most cases, the Provincial Technical Committees will consist of a chairperson and 3-5 committee members. All committee members are encouraged to seek support of their membership from their employers.
The ideal committee will have members from education (secondary and post-secondary) and industry, as well as representatives from the appropriate association, labour union or body that establishes its national training standards. Each committee will have a chairperson who corresponds with the national committee regarding the event. If you would like to join a Provincial Technical Committee, contact us at
jessem@skillscanada.com or 780.493.2752.
With your help Skills Canada Alberta will continue to create experiences that benefit our provinces’ youth.
Many SCA volunteers have the opportunity to extend their involvement with the Skills Movement through national and
international opportunities. Forty-seven Alberta Provincial Technical Committee Members also serve on a Skills/Compétences
Canada National Technical Committee. We are proud to have four Albertans represent Canada as Technical Experts with
WorldSkills International. At WorldSkills Calgary 2009, 40% of all Workshop Supervisors and Workshop Assistants
were
Alberta volunteers. We thank you, in advance, for your consideration to volunteer with our organization.
